HBA chapter: HBA New York
Current role with the HBA: President, HBA New York

I volunteer for the United Force for Change because I believe in contributing my time to causes that elevate the socioeconomic narrative for women all over the world. The narrative will not change without an impetus for change.

Volunteering has impacted my career by increasing my social capital and support base for my small business' Amplifying Scientific Innovation platform. Volunteering has expanded my access to new channels, opportunities and like-minded individuals who are passionate about impactful work and advocacy.

My favorite HBA event was the last in-person HBA New York event that I attended where the amazing Laurie Cooke interviewed Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla in December 2019. It was simply a masterclass in executive presence and mission-driven engagements.

The most valuable lesson I learned from a fellow volunteer is to keep smiling. Charismatic leadership is much needed amid the pandemic and with the surge in virtual engagements.

My favorite part of volunteering for the HBA is seeing a shared vision come to life during events when all the planning and preparation falls into place. I decided to apply for my current leadership role because I had a good relationship with the outgoing board and wanted to ensure continuity in the work and the overall impact of the chapter.

I first learned about the HBA from Dr. Freda Lewis-Hall. She used to be a mentor of mine and I was highly impressed by her recognition as the HBA Woman of the Year back in 2011. I decided to get more involved in the HBA when I became an entrepreneur as I was looking for social support and I've never been in such an empowering organization.

What would be your advice to someone thinking about joining or getting more involved with the HBA? Don't hesitate. Join to support and be supported by other women who are breaking barriers daily.

Anything else you would like to share? I am proud that the HBA is making waves at a time when there is finally national recognition for the need for diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of our lives, including healthcare.

Follow me as I take over the HBA social media accounts on 20 April.
